As most of you already know, this past two weeks I have been trying to heal from a little hiking incident. On April 3rd Jazmin, Zack, Lauren and I went hiking up a massive mountain here in Peru. We ended up off the trail and the hike turned into something more like rock climbing. As we climbed higher and higher, the rocks seemed to be getting bigger and bigger. It started to get really difficult to find a good path to climb up. We were struggling to stay on our feet due to the amount of loose rocks both big and small. Before I knew it, a giant bolder came loose from above and it just so happened to be coming straight for me. I tried to dodge it as best as I could but it was hard to move quickly due to the steep slope we were on. The boulder ended up smashing my leg against the rocks on the ground. I started to panic as I helplessly watched the blood rush from my leg. How am I going to make it down this mountain? What if I loose too much blood? What if more rocks fall and we all die?

I sat there for a minute, recollecting my thoughts. I thanked God that the rock didn’t break my leg. I thanked God for Zack who brought a first aid kit. I thanked God for Lauren who made me drink water and eat bread. I thanked God for Jaz and her beautiful prayers. I thanked God that I was still alive. Surprisingly I started to walk down the mountain in confidence and with a sense of comfort. For the first time in my life I truly thought I could have died. And I know God’s hand was over me and He prevented the Rock from smashing my head or any major organs. This is something I will never forget. Not because of the traumatic experience but because I saw God’s hand in my life and I felt his overwhelming presence as we walked down that mountain.

I feel blessed to have walked away from this with only a few wounds. The wounds are pretty deep and I had to get a few stitches. Unfortunately one of them got infected last week. I’m now taking stronger antibiotics and the infection appears to be clearing up.

Please keep me in your prayers this next week. I will keep you all updated!
