Africa, you’re different and uncomfortable, but you’re growing on me
I thought I would share a more positive side of the World Race. For me, the race has been filled with extremes. Moments of being uncomfortable and homesick, as well as moments of being filled with joy and sensing God’s presence. Today I want to share some of those wonderful, joy filled moments. In Malawi I started to write down my favorite moments. I continued to write them down in Zambia. Here are the top 10 moments from my time in Africa.
Malawi
1. Woman singing “all to Jesus” I surrender with a thick malawian accent.
Beautfiul. She is sweeping the house cooking over a wood fire.
2. Children in Malawi pushing each other in a wheel barrel. One little boy named blessing about 4 years old sits in the wheel barrel while the older boy, Israel, about age 6 pushes him. They are delighted. They are having fun without technology.
3. laying in my tent at night and listening to dogs howl and looking up at the night sky
4. A bird landing on the brick wall outside my tent. I heard the sweet flutter of it’s wings and it landed right in front of me as I was laying in my tent
5. Dancing at church. I felt God’s joy bubble over my soul. I cried at the joy He brought to my heart.
Zambia
6. Praying for a young man named Patrick. My team and I met Patrick while walking to door to door ministry. Patrick told us that his mother disowned him and he and his brother were not speaking. He told us that he was struggling with mental illness and contemplating suicide. My team and I encouraged him and prayed for him and he came to church later that day.
7. Singing “Happy Birthday” along with the whole church to 3 year old baby miracle
8. The other day our host accidentally ran over the family puppy named Simba. It was a terrible morning. My heart broke at the sound of him crying in pain. We needed to leave him with the rest of the family while we went to ministry. They took him to the vet and the next day he came home. Seeing him hopping along with an injured leg, but alive made my heart so glad.
9. Women in the empty church singing along to “our God is an a
awesome God”
10. Praying in church the other night. The power went out and we finished the service in candle light.
I have tried to upload some pictures and video on to this blog. The internet is not cooperating with me. If you want to see pictures check out my facebook page. Thank you for your prayers. I still need about 3,000 dollars to reach my fundraising goal. Please pray that God would continue to provide me with funding.
