Oh to sum up Mzuzu, Malawi…I loved it!! Here is my new team, Creedence, standing in front of Lake Malawi…

We lived in our tents in a church and took freezing cold showers every day. I learned how to eat Nsima the right way, WITH YOUR HANDS and ate it that way every time we had it.(Editor’s note: Nsima is a Malawian dish made by boiling coarsely grown corn.) The team called me Malawian because no one else wanted to eat it with their hands.

Mary and I taught 3 and 4 year olds in a school by the church where we stayed. Our team taught school children ages 3-8 every day from 7:30 to 12. My class wouldn’t start until about 8:30 or 9, whenever all the kids would get there. Time is NOT really important in Africa. But my teammate, Mary and I would be there waiting for the kids. Mary and I taught the kids so many songs and they loved it.  One day the teacher didn’t show up so I stepped up and taught them the letter B. I didn’t really know if I would be able to teach them anything, but I think I did a great job.

We also went door to door encouraging people that were members of the church to start coming back to church. Those were fun days because they would squash 6 of us in the back of a small truck.

We volunteered ourselves to paint the class rooms because they really needed it and our ministry hosts were so happy because they had been praying for someone to paint the rooms. There were 4 rooms, so everyone painted the room that they were working in. Mary and I painted our room and we got some of the guys to help us. It’s was a tiring job but we were so happy when it was finally done. We painted Jonah and the whale on one wall and numbers, colors, shapes and the alphabet on the opposite wall.

I hated to have to leave Mzuzu. It’s so hard when you make good friends and you have to say goodbye. I thought it was hard saying good bye to my friends in America, but I get to see them again. I may never get to see my friends in Mzuzu again.

A few more memories…washing clothes with the Pastor’s daughter and Elijah reading his Bible in church….

Now we are in “Month 6” (June) and I am in Zambia. Thanks for praying for me, my team and the ministries we are working with.
