We have entered month 7 and we are enjoying life here in Uganda! We get to work with a fantastic organization, Child Voice too. I want to share with you more about Child Voice; what they do and why they do it.

Why was Child Voice started:

“Today, the world encompasses more than 25 conflict zones (according to the Council on Foreign Relations) where children are growing up under the shadow of war. At ChildVoice, we believe these young victims desperately need our help if they are to know a brighter future.

In recent years, the nature of armed conflict has changed, with children increasingly being used as instruments of war.

There are other risks for children living in conflict zones as well. Changes in technology and shifts in war tactics have resulted in the use of aerial attacks, putting children directly in the line of fire. We must act today to restore the voices of children silenced by war.”

What do they do at Child Voice:

“ChildVoice acts on the conviction that children broken by war can be restored in safe, therapeutic settings with loving care, spiritual and emotional counseling, and effective education and vocational training. This is accomplished through both community-based and center-based programs.”

At the center we are at; they provide 36 young moms with a safe space to live. They provide them with schooling for their babies who range from 5 months-5 years. They get vocational training in sweater weaving/sewing, hair salon, bakery/catering, car mechanics, agriculture, and business. They teach them how to run a successful business for themselves and continue to follow them for 3-5 years after they leave the program. They are a center that works diligently and lovingly to heal their past, help their present, and launch them into their futures.

How we have fallen in love:

It is so humbling to watch these girls each and every day! We really get to sit back and watch how differently life operates out of the states. How simple life can be. They have by far taught us more this month than we have taught them! We get to observe and assist making meals over charcoal. We sit in their classes with them and watch as they make sweaters from scratch. We help hand wash clothes and watch as the July sun dries them in no time at all. We play and love on their babies who just melt your heart. We fill the nights with worship in a small gazebo where we get to laugh and celebrate Jesus!

This place has changed me and makes me want to soak up each moment we are here. I am loving Uganda and I am loving Child Voice even more 🙂
