The day has finally come, we are counting down the hours to get on the plane and go!!!! First, since I haven’t officially said it, we’re going to Costa Rica!! Nicaragua has closed their borders, but we have adjusted and are so pumped. So many people have questioned how or why we would go and travel right now in a covid world. First, have faith. I have more faith that the Lord will protect me than I do fear of getting sick. Second, world race has gone above and beyond in protecting not only us, but them, our hosts, and everyone we will come in contact with. You can go to the World Race covid page for super specific details, but I can tell you what I specifically had to do. My entire team had to go and get a covid test days before showing up to training camp, we had to take our temps everyday for a week and record symptoms before coming, and were still doing that everyday of the race. The saddest part of being super cautious is our team is split into cohorts. My team of 17 is split up and I eat and sleep with just 8 people. We wear masks 24/7 unless we are eating or sleeping. We have Tape dividing everything to keep up separated. However, once we get to Costa Rica we will all be able to be together as we will be living together for three months! On top of all of that we have our own porta potties that only your team can use, we schedule our showers, and we have separate water jugs. They have really thought of every detail to protect us, which is so cool because they’re going the extra mile to make sure we are safe and get to launch, even if it’s difficult for the staff. So far I have met incredible people, who are so intentional and funny. We have laughed so much and even though we have only been together for four days, there’s a lot you can learn about a person you’re with consistently for four days. I know that each person on this team was hand picked by God to be together. I am super stoked about this adventure I take off on, tomorrow!!!!
