So I bet a lot of you are thinking, “What are you going to be doing in Georgia for three months?” In the past, Gap Year squads have had a ten day training camp sometime in July, and then launched onto the field in September. Because of covid, we aren’t allowed to leave the country at the moment. So, as a contingency plan, AIM decided to keep the Gap Year squads here in Georgia. We now get a more in depth and longer training camp. Honestly, when I heard we were going to be living in Georgia for three months, I was questioning my decision about Gap Year. But the more I dwelled on the idea, the more the Lord told me I should go. One of the main reasons I chose to go on the race in the first place was to find answers about the vast and mysterious God who made me. What better way to do that than diving deep into scripture, worship, and teachings for a whole three months!
So here’s a regular week-long schedule for us here in Gainesville.
- 7am: Time to wake up! Most of us get up to watch the sunrise or get some quiet time in with God before the day begins.
- 8am: Breakfast with the fam. The food here is so bangin!
- 9am: Daily devos. These are lead by a different leader everyday. This can look like a deep dive into the book of James, simply sitting in silence, or rewriting a Psalm.
- 10am: Sessions/teachings. We are so blessed to have crazy, wise and passionate teachers that pour into us every day. Some of my favorite so far have been on the Holy Spirit, and Grace vs. Law!
- 12:30: Lunch with the fam. Again with that bangin food!
- 1:30: Rotations- these are different everyday. Rotations may include: cleaning, hand-washing laundry, showers, squad time, or exercise.
- 5:30: Dinner. This is always followed by multiple games of knockout.
- 6:30: Team time. A time where we debrief with our team about everything we learned that day and spend intentional time getting to know each other.
- After team time, we have the entirety of the night to do whatever we want- playing endless rounds of spike ball, deep diving into the word or even participating in some bad karaoke.
- 10:00: The day has come to an end. Quiet hours. Time to recharge and get ready for the next day.
I’m loving life here in Georgia, as the Lord is teaching me so much here. I’m really learning how to surrender daily, and to give up things that distract me from my relationship with the father. I’ve had the best time getting to know my squad, who have quickly turned to my family. I’m so ready and excited to see what else the Lord has planned for this chapter of my life. Catch you all in the next blog. ;D
