Hey everyone! I wanted to start off by giving a little update. I just finished midterms, which means I am half way through this semester. It is hard to believe that in 7 short months, I will be graduating from college with my degree in Health Care Administration. This semester has been really tough because I have 19 credit hours at school and I have been working 32+ hours a week.

What Is The World Race? How Did You Hear About It?

The World Race “Semesters” is a 1-6 month mission trip to share the love of Jesus with others around the world. I first heard about The World Race when I graduated high school. A friend of mine, Brooke, took a Gap year through The World Race our freshman year of college. I began looking into the program then but felt as if it wasn’t something I would ever be able to do. Now I have a chance to do it!

What Will You Be Doing In The Philippines?

While in the Philippines, I will get to do a wide variety of things. Each day will be a little different. My squad and I will be partnering with an organization called Kid’s International Ministry (KIM) in Manila. KIM seeks to meet the needs of abandoned children, windows, and the poor by “showing” them the gospel. We will have the opportunity to serve in the nursery, build relationships with kids, tutor, assist with the daily distribution of food and medicine, lead devotions with the youth, serve in the birthing clinic, assist with disaster relief work, and help identify kids and people who need medical care.

Why The Philippines?

I have always had a passion for working with children and working in the Health Care field. I have spent the past two summers at a summer camp working with, playing with, and sharing the love of God with hundreds of kids. I prayed and asked God to show me that this is where I need to be and he did. For the past few years, I have been living my life the way that I want to and not the way God wants me to and that is why I am giving my all to him.

How Can I Help?

The best way that you can help is to pray for me, my squad, and the Philippines. We are all a little bit nervous but very excited to take on this new journey. Pray for Strength and Guidance as we take this leap of faith. Not only can you partner with me and prayer, but you can partner with me financially. You can donate directly from this blog, through Venmo (@matthew-burke22), or by giving me cash or a check.

I am exciting to go on this trip and spread the love of God to others. Thank you for being loving and supportive and taking the time to read my post!
