Our team headed out for Coban, Guatemala at 4:30AM the other morning with our ministry contact, Marco. We were headed to Coban so we could work on a pastor’s church there that didn’t have electricity. It was nearly an 8 hour trip, but I knew it would be really worth it. At one point in the trip we were heading up higher and higher into the mountains and then all of the sudden we stopped. The stoppage was due to a protest that was happening in the middle of the road. I couldn’t believe this was possible…that people could just stop traffic both ways for a protest. The people who were protesting were Mayans who wanted more representation and rights because the government wasn’t fixing problems in their communities that needed to be dealt with.

It was actually a good experience because our team got a chance to get out of the car and stretch our legs. Marco told us that this was a pretty normal thing because it is something that gets everyone’s attention, but not always the government. It’s funny though because this experience parallels of a lot of my walk with Christ. A lot of the times He will put a roadblock in my way so that I stop and take things in for what they are and point out situations that needs to be dealt with. Right now at this roadblock in my life, He is teaching me to be forgiving and courageous in my faith. It has been a hard roadblock to get around because it causes a lot of brokenness, but the payoff for getting through it all is so worth it. I really can’t wait to get to Coban and see what God will teach us there!
