This was written by my good friend, Kimberly Daniels. It kind of gives you an idea what a few of us are doing this weekend.
I’m leaving to go live with people I’ve never met, in a place I’ve
never been, to do things that I have yet to have any idea about.
Our team has been here in Chincha, Peru for the last 3 weeks,
establishing relationships with the people of Tambo De Mora and Los
Jardines, and learning of their needs since the earthquake in August.
We’ve helped them re-tarp their roofs, we’ve fumigated their homes for
fleas, we’ve VBS-ed the kids, and heard their stories…
But there are still more we have not yet reached.
The people of Canchamana are living in a remote area with their goats
and cows, and have received even less aid than the people of Tambo
because they don’t fall within the guidelines of the established towns
that were affected by the earthquake. But they were undoubtedly
affected.
Currently, they are living in tents on a bluff
with their animals, selling milk at only a fraction of what it is worth
for their livelihood, and have little direction for how to generate
more income for their families. We have no idea where they are at
spiritually, or what their specific needs are, but we do know that no
one has gone to hear their stories. No one knows how they were affected
by the earthquake, and they are isolated.
So tomorrow morning, Matt P, Matt S, Gretchen, Angie,
our translator Richard, and I will be leaving for Canchamana until
Sunday, bringing one change of clothes, a couple tents, our own water,
and some peanut butter. Please keep us in your prayers this weekend.
You’ll be getting the full update on what God did on Sunday…..
And how can they preach unless they are sent?…”
