:: a missionary’s life – creepy children on planes ::

After roughly two weeks without going about my weekly tradition, it’s finally back.  Time to officially ring in the New Year with my weekly update!  In case you’re a new reader and haven’t read one of my Friday updates before, they’re simple.  It’s just me taking random events that happened throughout the week and highlighting them.  The idea is to give you a glimpse into my daily life…

So, drumroll…. (insert drumroll sound)… here we go:

Smart children with big vocabularies.  So I got on a plane two nights ago to head down to Atlanta.  Some of you might know that I have a severe apprehension when it comes to kids.  I always get this giant pit in my stomach that says: you’re going to make them cry!  I just don’t know how to act around them and I’m extremely nervous.  Well, it was a full flight down to Atlanta and guess who was sitting next to me?  A two year old.  When I sat down he asked his mom in the most accusatory way possible, “who’s that guy?”
“He’s a nice gentleman flying to Georgia,” she responded.
“Oh,” he said looking at me with judgmental glances.
Two seconds later I grab the magazine in the seatback and start flipping through it.  “What are you doing?” he asked pointedly.
I laughed nervously and his mom said, “he’s reading a magazine, honey.”  The child just looked at me.  Then he said, “does he have to sit next to us?  Does he have to read that?”
“Yes, baby.”
Then he looked at me and scoffed.
What… a… punk.
The mother kindly replied, “I’m sorry, he has a very large vocabulary for a two-year-old, so I apologize for anything he says on this flight right now.”
I told her that it was okay and looked at her son.  He gave me a death-glance and I nervously kept “reading” my magazine.
Thank God he slept for the entire flight.  We might have had a throwdown…

Gainesville.  I’m in my third home.  I come to Gainesville, GA every so often for various reasons, but mostly because AIM is based out of here.  I came down for the month to help out with a new program we have happening, Project Searchlight.  I’ll be helping drive the participants around and helping lead worship in the mornings.  After PSL is done, I get to help out with Real Life training camp.  It’s a month of good times!

The Biggest Gainer.  Okay, so a couple of months ago (October to be exact), myself and a friend made a bet that whoever could gain the most amount of weight by the next time we see each other… gets a free dinner from the loser.  Many of you know the regiment of protein shakes, meals, and hours at the gym that I then decided to start.  Well… guess what?  I WON!  After making it to Gainesville a few nights ago, Braedon and I weighed ourselves and I had gained 8 lbs. while he had only gained 4 lbs. (I think).  But it was truly a victory for the both of us.  Why?  Because this is the most either of us have ever weighed in our life!

Kansas.  This is a glance back, but I just want to say that I had a fantastic time over the past two weeks back in Kansas with my family.  We spent a lot of time together and I drank gallons of coffee with a lot of my friends.  It was wonderful and truly relaxing.  I’ve been asked to return in the spring and share about the World Race and missions.  I’ll keep you in the loop on that so if any of you are interesting in driving to Wichita to hear me speak, you can!

Support.  Whenever I’m low on support, I usually plug that tid-bit of information into my Friday update.  So you know what this means?  It means I’m low on support and am in desperate need of your help.  I know that the New Year just started, but if you’d be willing to make a pledge towards this ministry, you can do so by letting me know here via email.  If you want to know more about what I’m a part of at AIM and the World Race, you can check out this recent blog that I wrote.  Again, please consider supporting this ministry if you aren’t already are.  I love working with this organization and you’re who helps keep me here!

Question for You!
Here’s a question for you: what else would you like to see in my Friday updates?
