Hey ya”ll I just got back from 11 days out in the woods of Gainesville, Georgia for World Race Training Camp! I can honestly say that I am not the same man that walked into the woods two weeks ago. I am going to try and not give away ton’s of details about what exactly went on so that future racers still have the element of surprise when they go.
I went into training camp completely blind and unaware of what was going to happen. The second I got to the training facility my squad welcomed me like we had known each other for our entire lives. We all pitched our tents together down in the woods where it was extremely hot and humid. I don’t know one person who would say that the living conditions where anywhere near easy. We took bucket showers that ended up being pretty pointless because by the time you finished you started sweating a ton! The food was really interesting. Each day was food from a new culture and we got to learn some of their customs and traditions.
Now onto the more important things. Each day we had about two-three “sessions.” We were told that our faith would be challenged and that we would experience tremendous growth if we went in with an open heart and mind…That was an understatement. What I experienced and learned from the different speakers cannot be put into words. I can only say that I grew so much closer to God and got a better understanding of Jesus’s heart. I will never forget worshiping(singing praise to God) one night and a song called Good, Good Father came on. This song hit me like a rock.I looked around the room and realized I was surrounded by people who come from so many different backgrounds but are all here for the same reason.
Training camp for me was all about overcoming obstacles and stress, learning about different cultures, and having my heart and mind renewed by our amazing Father. In the process I gained 50 new brothers and sisters who are the biggest blessing in my life. We launch for Thailand in less than a month and I pray that God prepares our hearts and the hearts of the people we will be spreading the love of Christ to overseas.
Thank you for reading this far and I would love to get together with all of you before I leave! Please don’t hesitate to call me or message me! Thanks and God Bless!
