It’s easy to believe

You might not survive the dark

When the shattered panes of glass

Which used to be windows

And the doorframes with broken hinges

Which used to swing wide the doors

Welcome in the darkness while

Expecting light instead.

And light looks the same–

Is the same–

From everlasting to everlasting

But here it’s hardly recognizable

Broken as it is

By prisms and prisons

And smoke and mirror mazes

Dividing and destroying

The fullness of love which pierces

The darkness like an arrow

From bright Apollo’s chariot.

But for ears that can hear

And eyes that can read,

We, the witnesses, have received a Word.

And in the Word is life

And that life is the light of all people.

The light shines in the darkness,

And the darkness does not overcome it.

Truly, the Light shines.
