Nicaragua update:
We will be getting to the orphanage on the 9th after a looong bus ride from Guatemala City. Our route will start on the 7th and take us from Guatemala City to El Salvador, where we will spend the night in San Salvador. From there we’ll go through Honduras (apparently no political problems to worry about) and end in Managua, Nicaragua. The next morning all the teams will go their separate ways, and Team Hot Mess and ourselves will take another bus to the orphange…which [rumor has it] is on an island in the middle of a huge lake!!! How cool is that?! Well, cool provided its not like a “Lord of the Flies” type island haha. We will work there til December 1st, upon which we will meet up with the rest of L Squad for a four-day “Debrief” with Sean and Andi and our coaches Mike and Patti. It appears that at the orphanage we will have actual sleeping quarters (3-4 to a room), toilets, and separate showers, and that we will be living in the compound alongside the orphans. Our meals will all be prepared for us again in Nicaragua except possibly breakfast, but our budget may be a bit tighter as room and board is going to be $9 per person per day…about double what it has been this month with Pastor Manuel in Lacamá II ($3.75 for food per person each day, plus a bit for rooming). Internet use will probably again be somewhat limited because we will have to go to the nearest town for it, but this time the town is only about a 15-min car ride away. The orphanage is called the Cicrin Orphanage. Word on the street is that if you google it apparently you can find some videos from past World Racers.
The tentative breakdown of what we’ll be doing looks like this :
For one team, it will be:
2 people doing the gardening project;
2 helping in the kitchen to prepare meals for the orphans;
2 taking care of an 8-month old and 4-year old.
The other team will be working at the local church doing construction, cleaning, and preaching/evangelism. We don’t know which team will be doing what, but here on Team Jubilee we are hoping to get the kiddos.
Also, I forgot to mention this in the last blog but there is a married couple on the other team! They are Brad and Erika Baldwin, and they have been married for 3 or 4 years I think. They are so awesome, I am really excited to be working with them next month.
Last but not least, Hot Mess’s team leader Christine will no longer be on the World Race due to personal matters. It hit me pretty hard because Christine was the one person I knew before the Race, and I was so excited to be with her in Nicaragua. I can rest, though, in the fact that she has complete peace about her decision. Please be praying for her as she makes the transition back to life in the States, and that she would be able to continue her ministry back home. Also, please pray for Brad who is their new leader.
