Hello blogosphere!

I just wanted to put a quick update out to say that I am about to head into the northern Thai mountains up near the city of Chiang Mai. This month, all the men from the L-Squad will be together while the women will be in three collective teams. We will be doing manual labor-type stuff (I think) and probably spending our time between sleeping in our tents or in huts in the local villages (I think). Since there will be little-to-no internet, I will most likely not making any blogs til Christmas, when our squad will reunite in Bangkok for Christmas. The ministry contact we will be working with is supposed to be an amazing man, and really up for doing cool work and taking cool adventures… needless to say, it should be an exciting month with probably too much testosterone. Ha.

Also, this month the wonderful women of our squad will be doing ministry in the bars and clubs of the major cities, talking with and helping the women trapped in the overwhelming and flourishing prosititution and sex industry here in Thailand. Please send up some extra prayers for them as they will be doing ministry in completely unfamiliar territory and a dark spiritual atmosphere.

Happy Holidays everyone, and Merry Christmas!

Two requests I make of you this holiday season…

1. Rent the movie/documentary “What Would Jesus Buy?” directed by Morgan Spurlock, the genius behind “Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden” and “Supersize Me.” The movie “What Would Jesus Buy?” is really pretty funny, but it also makes you think a lot about the commercialization of a holiday which  celebrates the birth of a baby who grew up to be a persecuted homeless Middle-Eastern hobo…

2. In a similar vein, please visit the website http://www.adventconspiracy.org/ — the Advent Conspiracy basically is this idea of spending less money on Christmas presents and instead making more meaningful ones to give. Then, with the money you save, you give it to organizations that will drill water wells in Africa for clean drinking water. Their motto is “Worship fully. Spend less. Give more. Love all.” Please watch the video they have too, it is really cool! Every year, americans spend $450 billion on Christmas presents, but the cost to solve the world’s clean water problem is only $10 billion. We can fix that.
