The roof! The roof! The roof is… Not strong enough to hold me!

I learned that we should never let our guard down… I had been so cautious about the roofing we were doing at the boys home. I managed to avoid any injuries from the risky work and environment we were facing. That was until the last 25 minutes of work there.

By that time, I was feeling comfortable with the work and I completely let my guard down. It was then, too late that I realized a certain part of the roof wasn’t strong enough to hold me and there I went, falling through, 15 feet above pavement.

I honestly can’t remember the time between standing on the roof to hanging on to two pieces of old wood. I believe that’s because the Lord wanted me to realize that I had no control and it was, in fact Him that caught me! I was then able to pull myself back up unto the roof. The Lords hand was there the whole time and instead of falling to the ground, I came back up with only large bruise

(I also have a huge bruise on my upper thigh but I figured I would save y’all from seeing that! lol)

This all had me thinking about those sins that seem to repeat no matter how many times you repent. Why is that? You really want to let go of them for the sake of your relationship with God and His Kingdom, but it continues to pop up. Frustrating, right? I know because I’ve dealt with sin like that. I remember hating the sin but yet my flesh would still fail. It’s because we let our guard down; become comfortable, prideful as if it was by our own ability we overcame before, and lose our dependence on Christ. The Lord warns us of this.

Proverbs 18:12, “Pride goes before a fall, but humility comes before honor.”

Proverbs 16:18-20, “Pride leads to destruction, and arrogance to downfall. It is better to be humble and stay poor than to be one of the arrogant and get a share of their loot. Pay attention to what you are taught, and you will be successful; trust in the Lord and you will be happy.

1 Peter 5:8 “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

Hebrews 12:1-2 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

So I challenge you and myself, no matter how victorious we may feel over a certain weakness to never let our guard down and realize that it is the strength given by God that we have victory! Also knowing that the devil still knows that weakness and is also very powerful. A power that our own ability, our own strength, and our self dependence, can’t stand against! It’s not enough to hold us up. We need a solid foundation to stand on. We need the FULL armor of God daily!

Ephesians 6:19-20 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
