Receiving The Torch
If you missed my blog, “Your Joking, Right?” you should track back and read it. It explains the leadership role that I was asked to step into just before we went to Albania in month 5.
During month 1-5, our squad was lead by three amazing people who I now consider my friends: Jeff, Alyssa, and Beka. I can’t explain to you the impact they made on this squad. I would not have wanted to follow and eventually step into anyone else’s leadership.
They spent their last month with us in Albania, training Bre, Rita, Daniel, and myself to lead this squad for the remaining months. They did not invite us to only shadow them but instead begin stepping into that role and making decisions. I appreciate that because it made the transition a lot easier. I ‘ve already talked about feelings I was having stepping into Squad Leading and I will go more into some challenges I’ve faced in future blogs. I basically wanted to use this blog to honor them and their time with C-Squad.
Jeff and Alyssa are married and have spent most of their marriage so far on the World Race. They began their race in January of 2013 then went on to Alumni Squad Lead January 2014 for us C-Squaders. Their marriage is a role model and one that I have looked up to. Their devotion to the Lord is shown through their devotion to each other which transpired down into this squad. I’m looking forward to seeing what the Lord has for them next as they are now back in the states pursuing all that the Lord has put on their hearts. The World Race was just the beginning for these two! I’m excited about the possibility of them taking part in our month 8 debrief. Check out their blog!

Beka also began the race in January 2013 then went on to lead our squad. Her dedication to the Lord and His calling for her life is one that you don’t find very often. She has taken steps into the unknown that most would avoid for their own sense of security and plan. She is currently serving in Thailand with Adventures in Missions as they seek out the launching of a CGA base (a discipleship program) in Chaing Mai. As of now she is there until August and open for whatever the Lord has to follow. She will be joining us at month 8 debrief! She challenged me to press into the leader inside me instead of comparing myself to the works of others because the Lord needed me for a specific reason that no one else could fulfill. I don’t think she ever knew how big of an impact that made on me for here on the race and beyond. I encourage you to check out her blog!

Well there you have it! The best Alumni Squad Leaders… I have some pretty tough shoes to step into but knowing the peace they had in handing over the torch to us four makes me super excited about it and what the Lord as for me in this position. That pretty much sums up my time in Albania. Besides what I’ve mentioned, the scenery from where we lived and all around Albania were beautiful! We had a day trip to Kosovo one weekend and a beach trip for my birthday.
