I have some words of encouragement that have been on my heart for a while so i would like to share. I hope that they are of benefit because they have very much so helped me.
There are many of you that are a mere 4 days away from Training Camp. (its really awesome i promise!) There are some of you that are a few months away from leaving, and some that there are many months away from leaving. If you are like i was, you are probably spending countless hours reading blog after blog and watching video after video doing your best to live vicariously through Racers on the field. To be honest, please continue to do just that because though you may or may not experience the same things those Racers are, you will see a small glimpse of how things really are.
Here is my word of warning and encouragement though and i ask that you please take it to heart. Once your own Race begins, slow down on the blog reading. Now hear me out, its perfectly fine to continue to read some blogs when you have the chance but don’t spend the same countless hours you did before the Race. Last month in Peru i was having a one on one with my squad leader Sam and i was explaining to him how i didn’t read as many blogs as i used to and it was kind of weird. What he said to me was golden. He said “well the reason you aren’t reading as many is because you are no longer trying to live vicariously through other Racers, you are living your own story”. My mind was blown.
So basically, all i am saying is to “live your own story”. No two World Races will look the same and as much as i wanted mine to look like someone else’s, the truth is this is my own journey and it will be your own journey too. Not someone else’s. Embrace it, live it, love it.
