This month has been a very challenging one but many lessons have been learned through it. We have done a lot of manual labor over the last 6 months and this month wasn’t much different. It would have been easy to just get frustrated with the lack of purpose we had been feeling but we decided to approach it differently this time around.
Our hosts lived on a farm with a crop field bigger than i had ever seen. Tony told us that there were about 150 rows of crops that were very long. We were tasked with the job of picking the weeds from around all of the crops. It seemed to be impossible that we would ever get done. As the month drew to a close, we found out that several of the rows crops were being overtaken by the weeds and killed. We had to act fast and save them so instead of pulling every weed of the row, we only pulled the ones from around the plants. It made things go very quickly and before we knew it we were done with the whole field! It was so fulfilling to accomplish what we had set out to do.
On the last day of working, i began to see such a parallel with these weeds and our lives. We represent the crop and the weeds represent all of the sins that we have in our life. Some of the weeds are just small and come out very easily. Some weeds have deep roots and take more time to get out. Some weeds even have thorns and they really hurt your hands to get them out. The worst part is when you don’t pull the weeds and they overtake the plant and kill it.
Some of us have small sins, some of us have big sins, and some of us have sins that really hurt us or others. All of those sins are the same though and have to be pulled out. It is so crucial that we continue to pull out these “weeds” in our lives or they will eventually consume us and lead to death. The most important thing to remember is that pulling those “weeds” is a never ending process. We have to pull them daily from our life and ask God to continue to sanctify us always.
This month wasn’t exactly what we were looking for but God sure used it to teach us a lesson.
