I hope that this blog gives you all a small glimpse into what it looks like to be a treasurer on The World Race.
We had just experienced team changes and as excited as i was, i knew that God was calling me to do more. I didn’t exactly know what that meant but i knew that i needed to step out of my comfort zone and take on a new role for our team. I really hadn’t given it much thought but deep down i felt like i could be a treasurer. Wait what…..yes it sounded a little crazy but i really wanted to try it.
Ecuador was my first country as treasurer and since they use the US dollar, it was a smooth transition in my new position. We have a budget tool that we log the information of each ATM withdrawal and each transaction for that month. After making a receipt for each purchase, we enter that data into our spreadsheet and then we count to see how much cash is on hand. Everything is formulated so it tells us exactly how much money we should have so after we count our cash on hand we enter that in and compare. Sometimes it matches up and other times it doesn’t so then you have to find where the mistake is.
We are allotted a certain amount for categories such as food, lodging, transportation, etc. It is important to stay under budget to the best of our abilities but at times the circumstances hinder that. On the 15th and 30th of every month we upload our spreadsheets to Basecamp and the wonderful staff at AIM that work in the office look over them and make sure everything is going smoothly. At the end of the month, we turn all of our receipts into the amazing Kathryn who is our finance coordinator and she passes them onto our Logistics personnel and they mail all of them back to headquarters in Georgia.
It is a lot of work but i love doing it. I didn’t need the new position to feel like i was contributing but i think that it is important to obey the Lord when He is calling you to step out. Do not be afraid to take on things that seem scary and impossible because that is when He will show up in the most incredible ways. I also am honored to be a good steward of the money that God has provided for us through so many of you out there.
Love you all.
