I had intentions of not writing on this blog anymore but I remembered that there are many of you I do not have on facebook so this would be a good way to keep everyone up to date.
Well I have been home for 3 weeks exactly today. It has been wonderful and hard all at the same time. The best part was making it back in time for Thanksgiving and getting to spend a few days with my family and of course feasting on some amazing food. Unfortunately living on $5 a day for food for 11 months has shrunk my stomach so I don’t have near the appetite as I did before. I did lose 17 pounds this year and though I can’t really notice it, I have received so many comments about how skinny I am.
I was not prepared for how difficult it would be coming home back to my “kush” lifestyle. I have everything I need at my fingertips. I am spoiled beyond belief. I lived 11 months being very dependent on the Lord and after being home for 3 weeks, I have lost that dependence because I have more than I could ever ask for. The hope in all of it though is how much God is teaching me that I need to be involved with what He is doing here in my hometown. There are infinite ways to plug in and I am desperately wanting to continue helping people.
Foreign missions are wonderful and I love them but the reality is, we can be very involved here in America as well if we will just open our eyes. I didn’t spend 11 months on the World Race just to come home and kick my feet up. The hard part is DOING these things I talk about though. We have so many distractions in our American lifestyle, we totally disregard the need that is right in front of us. Its a choice and there are times that I don’t make the right one.
As many of you know El Salvador was one of my favorite places on the Race and I had some awesome opportunities while being there. One in particular was an orphanage that my old church has been going to for several years. I got to spend an afternoon there and it was so incredible. While there I found out that they would be going back there at the end of January and I was welcome to join. Of course I wanted to go.
I got home and forgot about that offer until last week when I stopped by the church to see if that possibility was still there. It was Tuesday and when I asked Pastor Billy he said, “well you are in luck because the deadline is Thursday”. I immediately said sign me up and that was all she wrote. So with that being said, I will be returning to El Salvador on January 31-February 7. I am beyond excited!
I ask that you keep our team in your prayers and I will be blogging again upon return to let yall know how it went. God Bless!
