We were asked to write a blog about how we felt before leaving on this mission trip. Here is what I’m expecting…

Okay, first off I am really trying hard to not expect anything. I know you are thinking that that is impossible, and you are correct. It most definately is. I am determined to go to training and into August with no predetermined thoughts or ideas, but it has been incredibly difficult. I am going to start off here with a brief word from “The Man”

… Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forget you. (Matt Patch), be strong and brave! You must lead these people so they can take the land that I promised their fathers I would give them. Be strong and brave. Be sure to obey all the teachings my servant Moses gave you. If you follow them exactly, you will be successful in everything you do. Always remember what is written in the Book of the Teachings. Study it day and night to be sure to obey everything that is written there. If you do this, you will be wise and successful in everything. Remember that I commanded you to be strong and brave. Don’t be afraid, because the Lord your God will be with you everywhere you go.”
 Joshua 1:5-9

… this being said, I expect to be fine. I know God will be with me the whole way. He’s in it for the long haul. I had written in my Bio that my biggest fear is being inadequate, and it still is. However deep down I know that Jesus has a great plan for me. I can relate to Andrew. Andrew was a common fisherman who often had his struggles and doubts, but God used him.  He is probably most known for being by Jesus’ side in feeding the multitude with loaves and wine. He also built churches, and preached to thousands.

Now after saying I’m trying to go in open minded and open heartedly… without expectations… here is what I’d expect if I were expecting…

1. that my team will be flippin’ awesome
2. that I will miss my dog
3. that God will use me in ways unimaginable
4. do they have sweet tea in Uganda?
5. Broken. Hm… shredded.
6. to feed the hungry… feed em that good news
7. miss my mom, my dad, my sister and bro
8. really miss my mom.
9. I’ll take a picture of her with me.
10. to come back and people not even know me…
11. hit rock bottom with some of the things I will see…
12. eat the grossest food I’ve seen since that domino’s incident
13. make some awesome music… and this white guy might dance.
14. I think when I say the blessing before I eat, it’ll be a lottttttt longer
15. be complete with my interim family
16. be humbled
17. see things happen that will blow me away (good and bad)
18. bless my food again after I’m done… just for good measure.
19. hit my knees a lot… fall on my face… read that Good Book… then jump up in praise

… but I don’t have any expectations by the way.

I don’t have any pics on this computer really… but I gotta spice it up some… this is all you get.
