A friend of mine here in Turkey turned on BBC news Christmas morning as he does every year. He wants to see what the world has to say about Christmas. Not much to his surprise, it was negative. They showed pictures of war, the pope being brought down to the ground by an attacker, and ended it with “Peace on earth… nowhere in sight”.
Many of you have read my facebook status over the past week or so. I asked that you pray for “Hannah”. Yesterday was the tenth day little Hannah had been taken away from her mother. I sat down with “Susan”, Hannah’s mother, yesterday as she talked about how miserable she has been. She described it as the worst feeling in her life not being able to see her baby girl. I can’t imagine.
The day before Hannah was taken away, she had come over to our contacts’ house for dinner. She had seen the Christmas tree and fallen in love with it. She wanted one just like it. It’s all she talked about. The day Hannah was taken, Susan had gone out and bought a Christmas tree and decorated it just for her little girl. Now she wondered if she’d ever be able to see it.
Peace is to be reconciled. To be made whole again, completed. My God is a God of peace. He is today, was yesterday, and will be tomorrow. Who’s to say what God’s plans are? Susan isn’t a believer, but she’s asking for prayer… She’s seeing the faith of believers and
feeling the love of Jesus through them. Susan received a call yesterday. Which just happened to be the morning after my team had a worship service and prayer for her… Hannah is coming home.
Peace on earth… experienced first hand.
