Sirens go off. They resemble what I would imagine an air race siren to sound like. All the kids go running for safety. People are put on high alert. What was happening? It was a shark warning system to alert swimmers and surfers of the presence of a “white pointer.” It was crazy coming from Florida to see a full on evacuation of the water, just like in the movie jaws. I kept thinking, if Florida evacuated every time we saw a shark, we would never be in the water.
Some of the locals here made a statement to the effect, “ef ya see uh shahk in the wutah weeth yuhew, yuhr uhlretty en uh bahd spot.” And then something to the effect that sharks here do attack people. Then they told me the story of the last guy to get attacked, 3 weeks ago. I thought to myself, this is not the story I head on shark week.
Early warning systems are good. Life is full of them. Wisdom hears them first.
IF you’re in the water and hear the sirens…go ahead and get out.
