Tonight I was leaving the gym and had to go to Wal-Mart to get a few things. It is pretty late around midnight so they were pretty empty. But when I was checking out there was a lady in front of me with her two small children (probably 1 and 2). She was pretty stressed, as anyone would be with two small children at midnight. As she was about to pull her cart away her 2ish year old stood up in the front just as she pulled the cart forward. He fell head first over the handles and straight into the ground. Luckily, I was right there and caught him right before he fell.
His mom came running over and took him from me nearly in tears terrified of what could have happened. She looked me right in the eye and said, thank you so much! I could see the terror in her eyes for her little boy but I also saw genuine gratitude. The kind that told me I just made a difference and saved her little boy from what could have been a very bad accident.
I didn’t tell this story to try and make myself look like a hero or boost my self esteem. I told this because I want everyone to know that God answers prayers. And God gives us opportunities everyday to make a difference.
Just this past week I have seen many instances that have made me question my ability to make a difference. And caused me to doubt that God could use me to make a difference in anyones life. On my way to Wal-Mart I just talked to God and told him that I wanted to make a difference. I didn’t have any one thing in mind or the size of the difference I just needed that reassurance that he still believes in me and Im on the path he needs me. Literally 15 minutes after that there I was making a difference for that mom and her little boy.
Everyday God gives us the opportunity to make a difference we just have to ask him to show us what that is. When we rely on our own abilities and understanding to make a difference we fall short and don’t reach the full potential. But when we rely on God to make a difference, he is in control and gives us power far beyond what our bodies and mind can even comprehend. And sometimes he just makes us present and allows us to act.
Dear God,
Thank you for putting me in the right place at the right time tonight. I asked for a chance to make a difference to those around me and you allowed me to see a need and fulfill it. God I pray that everyday I open my eyes more and see where you are calling me to make a difference each day. Amen
