Our team jokes about how 80% of the World Race is waiting.
Waiting to get on a bus.
Waiting to get to a new country.
Waiting to do ministry.
Waiting to do team time.
Waiting to use the bathroom.
Waiting for your whole team to get out the door.
Waiting is a tricky thing.
On one hand, there’s the excitement of things to come.
Friday night.
Graduations.
Summertime.
New Years Day.
In high school, I was waiting to go to college. In college, I was waiting to go on the World Race. On the World Race, I’ve found myself waiting for the Lord to reveal His “long term plan” for my life.
I mean, all those things are exciting, and good, but here’s the other hand…
Life happens in the waiting.
And if you’re caught up in the waiting for the next epic event…
You’ll miss it.
You’ll miss your life.
Ouch.
This is it!
When the Lord revealed this to me,
It’s like I was given new eyes, new feelings, a new mindset.
Sometimes when I ask people at home,
“What’s up? What’s been going on?”
Sincerely wanting to know,
Many times, the responses are…
“Well, nothing as exciting as your life.”
Here’s the deal, going on the World Race is cool, but seriously, it’s just living life.
And guess what?
If you are breathing,
You’re doing it too!
The Lord reveals himself to us all the time.
Everywhere.
Malaysia.
Massachusetts.
Everyday.
January.
July.
Through nature.
Through smiles.
Life, and the world around us are bursting at the seams with beautiful, noteworthy things.
But it’s kinda like a Christmas present.
It’s super cool within the first couple days of having it.
But then the excitement phase ends.
And it’s no longer special.
We have it, and will continue to have it.
Nothing extraordinary there.
But take a step back.
Let the Lord reveal to you the beauty of this life.
I mean, we know it’s there, and we like looking at it.
Why else is Pinterest so popular?
But why only “Pin” beautiful things, when you can go outside experience those beautiful things for yourself, by living your life?*
It’s the little things that make this life beautiful.
I feel like my eyes and senses are a super fancy camera.
I see these beautiful moments all around.
I feel these beautiful moments.
I snap them in my mind.
And know that the Lord is good.
The way the light of the sunset hits a bronzed Malaysian child’s face.
The echoing of the wind pressing against my earphones.
The feeling I get when I step out of air conditioning into intense heat.
Smiles exchanged as strangers cross paths.
Fresh snow on tree branches.
The wind blowing my straggling hairs across my face.
Really listening to Mumford & Sons' lyrics.
The honest tears of a heart that’s broken.
The well worn wrinkles under a grandma’s eyes.
A beautiful life is begging to be lived and experienced… by you, by me.
It’s time to stop living like it’s the week after Christmas.
Like we have to wait a whole year to feel the excitement of the season.
Like we have to wait to receive and give good gifts.
Life with the Lord is like Christmas everyday.
He gives us good gifts, everyday.
Extraordinary, spectacularly, beautiful moments, feelings, and people.
Everyday.
Open your eyes.
You’ll see.
