We’ve officially been in Guatemala for two full months.
Two months is enough time to settle into a “normal” routine.
It’s enough time to become accustomed to bus rides and ministry and forget the beauty of what we’re doing.
A lot of people on my squad were suffering illness this week, and the days seemed to drag on with few people at ministry and little motivation. The excitement and honeymoon phase of the “race” has worn off for the majority of us, and nothing ‘wild’ was happening. (I.e., trips up a volcano on horseback or excitement over a cool coffee shop in Antigua)
It took the sweetness of this Saturday to remind me how the Lord is in the everyday things.
I spent the day sleeping in until 9 (as opposed to my normal 5:30 wakeup), sat with Lauren and Brooke for a slow morning drinking coffee, deep cleaned our room, got chicken nuggets for lunch, finished a blog, talked to Anne Marie on the phone, went on a 3 mile run with Nicole, laughed a lot, had a bathroom dance party, and admired the sky.
All seemingly normal things, but the perspective of gratitude changed the way I experienced them.
He is in the beautiful sunrises, but He’s also in the average sunsets.
He’s in the beauty of the Sabbath, but also in the ordinary Tuesday.
It’s easy to see Him in a special needs child at ministry, but He’s also rooted in the squad mate or coworker who drives us crazy.
We cannot just choose to see Jesus when we’re feeling super energetic or having a good day. We must continually seek Him out and see Him when we aren’t “feeling” it. Because the truth of His presence everywhere transcends our feelings or circumstances.
He’s in the every day; in everything.
We just have to be aware of the beauty.
Fundraising Update
In the past couple weeks I’ve raised a couple hundred dollars, which is awesome! I am still not fully funded though, and would love to stay on the mission field, and you can make that possible! Prayers, shoutouts, tell your family and friends or the guy next door who doesn’t know what to do with his money. It means the world. Thank you!!
Week in the Life Blog Update
I’m currently trying to upload my week in the life vlog, but unfortunately the wifi in all of Guatemala is sketchy. I will have it up as soon as possible; you don’t want to miss it, so stay tuned! 🙂 Lots of raw and funny moments, a first hand look into ministry, and much more. It’s good.
Peace and blessings to you all
