After 3 flights on the same sketchy plane, and 36 hours of no sleep, I’ve made it to Guatemala! This country is absolutely breathtaking.

It rains everyday.

They don’t call this place the Land of Eternal Spring for nothing. The weather is mild and overcast during the day and pretty chilly in the mornings and evenings…so in other words..HEAVEN

We take chicken buses everywhere..yes..you heard right..chicken buses. These are old school buses from the states that have been painted and decorated all sorts of vibrant colors. Picture the bus from the ending scene of Nacho Libre, and that’s what they look like!

We are staying at an Adventures in Missions base, and it is unbelievable. The base it at the top of a mountain, so there are no mosquitoes..PRAISE THE LORD.

We sleep in bunk beds, and have a HUGE shower and a toilet!

There is an active volcano right next to the base we are staying at, and it puffs out smoke every three minutes.

There are 2 Guatemalan women on staff here named Teresa and Sandra who cook breakfast and dinner for us almost every day. Homemade corn tortillas are served with almost every meal. Sometimes I help Teresa make tortillas before dinner, and it’s safe to say I am a novice at best. Everyone can always tell which tortillas where made by me because they’d always be uneven and square shaped.

There is a freshly laid grass field inside the compound where my squad plays soccer or passes the volleyball around.

Ministry starts Monday, and I am about to get into the swing of things! My team and I are working with a ministry called One Way Community. We are working in a small village a couple bus rides away from our base, where we tutor kids, do house visits, and help disciple the women in the village.

Life here is slow, and centered around community.

God is on the move in Guatemala, and I have the honor of being a part of His work.

What a way to live.

Until next time!
