Hello hello!
I want to share about an incredible ministry event that took place this past week.
15 or so, real life Americans invaded our compound yesterday and facilitated a medical clinic for our community here in Trujillo. These American’s were medical students taking a residency medical mission, as well as a couple certified doctors, pharmacists, and physical therapists. It was quite shocking to have this many new American’s running around our home after all these months away. One young doctor even innocently asked us if we knew where the paper towels were. We had to withhold our shocked laughter as we realized we haven’t had the luxury of living around paper towels in almost a year.
Over 100 people were treated at the clinic. Many of our little students had the first check-up of their life. School was canceled for the day and most all of the mothers of our students showed up to visit the doctors. Men, woman, children, babies and grandparents received care for anything ranging from skin infections, burns, nerve damage, back pain, mental health, and a cold.
I helped translate for one check-up where a mother was concerned about the disfigured growth of her 6 year-old daughter. It turns out for the past few years she has been feeding her children a single banana and a single egg for every meal thinking that was all the nutrition they needed.
Many of the patients were able to receive free medicine from the “pharmacy” set up in our music classroom, and left the clinic with restored hope and high spirits.
Right before exiting the clinic we had a prayer room where we were able to pray for the patients and the families that so desired. A few of them heard the gospel for the very first time, and many others considered rededicating their lives to Christ after years of deserting their faith. One young mom was convinced she could not return to her faith because of her shameful mistakes, and we were able to to tell her that this was most definitely not the case. She brought her baby to the clinic for physical healing and left with a healing of her own, in the deepest parts of her wounded soul.
It was the most humbling to play a part in the event as medical care is something that we often take for granted. People came from near and far, lining up down the street, waiting for many hours. Some came and waited just to receive a simple check-up confirming that they were getting along just fine, as this kind of peace is often a luxury that they cannot afford.
Anyways, sometimes a picture is worth 1,000 words so here are about 15,000 more words.
XOXO,
MC
