I was reading Song of Songs the other day and in reading this verse I thought about how brothers biologically and spiritually, can play a significant role in helping to guard their sister as she grows up and provide godly examples of the one that will eventually take her hand in marriage. The verse says, “We have a little sister, and she has no breasts. What shall we do for our sister on the day she is spoken for? If she is a wall, we will build on her a battlement of silver (purification, redemption), but if she is a door, we will enclose her with boards of cedar. Song of Songs 8:8-9. And I wrote this:
The Brothers Keep Her
They were sent from above. To keep. To guard.
To get ready. To adorn with silver. Herself.
She will be betrothed to the one who rides in King Solomon’s chariot.
Whose horses are laden with jewels beyond description.
He comes riding to her soon.
The brothers keep her. They guard her. Love her.
They show her the way. Are examples of the one she waits for.
The one who sits on a seat of purple pulled by the most elegant of horses.
They provide a glimpse of him. A foretaste.
A truth she needs to see and know.
To guard herself. To wait upon him. She walks up from the desert.
To be in the company of her brothers.
To be adorned with silver and be protected by cedar.
Her brothers keep her. They cause her hair to grow.
Long tresses resting down her back flow like royal tapestry.
Her foundation becoming secure because of the brothers keeping her.
And how lucky we are as women on the World Race to be surrounded by men of God who are seeking to become more and more Christ like. So thank you brothers from L squad.
