Sleeping in huts in Africa, holding children that are dying of AIDS does not appeal to most people, however it is what drives the heart of my friend Joy. I got the amazing opportunity to talk to this wonderful woman of God who has such a passion for serving the Lord. She truly embodies her name, she is so full of joy and life. Her heart’s desire is to serve those dying in Africa. She believes her purpose in life is to escort people to heaven. Talk about a calling straight from the Lord. Most people shy away from the dying and destitute, but Joy is drawn to them. While some may see this as sacrifice, she does not, she calls it the desire of her heart. When talking with Joy you can see the passion radiate from her. She is true and genuine, there is not a fake bone in her body. It is amazing how God puts a call and desire on our lives. It is normally something we do not expect. She didn’t used to be a big fan of children, now that is who she desires to minister to. God works in truly amazing ways. Joy is not just giving up this year for the Lord, she is giving up her life. Unlike most of us, she already knows what God holds for her after this race. Her goal is to eventually become a career missionary to southern Africa through the International Mission Board. What great wisdom and understanding God has placed on a woman so young. She already knows what most of us wish we knew, the calling God has placed on our lives. God has blessed my life so much just getting a glimpse into the person God has made Joy to be. I can’t imagine what a blessing she will be to the children of Africa. I know she will do great things for the Lord. I have learned a lot from my short conversation with her. I have learned that we are complete when we follow the Lord with reckless abandon. We are most happy when we are living in God’s will. Joy is doing all these things and is one of the happiest people I know. She truly radiates joy, peace and the understanding that comes from being in the will of God.
