Well, three weeks of kid’s camp in South Africa are now over. I had such a blast working at these camps. The first and last week I worked with the preschoolers. The middle week I led the kitchen crew making lunches for the children each day. The first camp was at Refilwe, a local community project. The second camp was at a small private school and the third camp was in a community called Mamalodi.

The first camp Michelle and I led the preschool class. The camp is actually for 7-13 year olds, but many of them are the primary caregivers in their family and must bring their little brothers and sisters to camp with them. This week we had anywhere from 2 to 20 preschoolers. We led bible stories, snack, songs and games for the children. It was so neat to see the children progress through the week and open up to us.

The second camp we were in charge of making lunch for the children. I was put in charge of the kitchen crew. We made hot dogs, sandwiches and beans and rice. It was a lot of fun to try something different for this week of camp.

The last week of camp I did preschool again. We had anywhere from 15 to 30 children. It was chaos at times, but still lots of fun. The children do not understand English, so we were given translators. It was great to be able to pour into these teens along with the preschoolers.

God has given me a heart for children, so it was neat to be able to work with kids for three weeks. I really enjoyed my South African camp experience.
