Hope Church – our main ministry site in Draganesti-Olt, Romania

Here are eleven observations of Old Country Romania after our first month out in the world:

  1. Toilet paper is a luxury. Bring your own and throw it in the trash – don’t flush.
  2. Washing machines are normal. Dryers are unnecessary.
  3. The night air in Draganesti-Olt is thick with ash from burning trash.
  4. Beer is cheaper than water or soda.
  5. There’s horse poop. EVERYWHERE.
  6.  “Dogs aren’t always pets. They’re just … there.”  – Ali
  7. Siestas are universal – from 1pm to 5pm. All day, every day.
  8. “Peanut butter here is liquid gold.” – Ali
  9. Air-conditioning, what’s that?
  10. Sheer tops are in, bras are out.
  11. Gypsy kids have the best smiles. And the fastest hands to grab your bracelets.
