Hope Church – our main ministry site in Draganesti-Olt, Romania
Here are eleven observations of Old Country Romania after our first month out in the world:
- Toilet paper is a luxury. Bring your own and throw it in the trash – don’t flush.
- Washing machines are normal. Dryers are unnecessary.
- The night air in Draganesti-Olt is thick with ash from burning trash.
- Beer is cheaper than water or soda.
- There’s horse poop. EVERYWHERE.
- “Dogs aren’t always pets. They’re just … there.” – Ali
- Siestas are universal – from 1pm to 5pm. All day, every day.
- “Peanut butter here is liquid gold.” – Ali
- Air-conditioning, what’s that?
- Sheer tops are in, bras are out.
- Gypsy kids have the best smiles. And the fastest hands to grab your bracelets.
