What does a day in the life of Mary Magoni look like in Kenya?
Well it looks like a hodge-podge assortment of random things, that’s what!
One of my favorite things about ministry in Kenya is that each day is completely different.
The mornings are our only source of consistency:
6:43 AM – my watch alarm beeps.
Blah, I press snooze and roll over.
6:50 AM – other alarms begin to sound, and although the room tries to ignore the melody of beeping, the morning conversation begins:
“Are you getting up?”
“Arghhh, I don’t want to…are you getting up?
“Arghhh, I don’t want to either, but I had 2 and a half pieces of chapatti last night…I have to.”
And that is how Rebecca, Christina and I pull ourselves out of our bunk beds, grab the rest of our team, and head to the street for our morning run.
Our view as we run
Breakfast follows promptly at 8:30 and is usually some combo of the following:
Toast with peanut butter, jelly, margarine, and honey toppings, popcorn, avocado, bananas, nuts, egg sandwiches, and tea, coffee & coco…easy to say breakfast is my favorite!
After breakfast we have our much loved “Tanning and Testimony Time”.
“T&T Time” is exactly what it sounds like: an hour or two of sunbathing in the front yard while a teammate shares their life story. Growing in unity and trying to blend in with our African family…it’s a win-win!
Here’s a little glance at life in Pastor Moses’s Casa:
Above: “Papa Bear!” aka, Pastor Moses, and his sweet home.
Above: Our room & the cows that live in our front yard.
Below: Team hang out time after dinner-what T&T time looks like but during the afternoon
Lunch usually follows then the afternoon’s various adventure. For this blog, I want to let images paint the picture of the types of ministries we’ve been a part of this month. Enjoy!
Week 1: teaching in Liberty School
This is Pastor John and his two children. He began this school a few years ago for the local kids in the Bikeke area; many are orphans.
We taught the students “Life Lessons” : Bible stories & songs, health and & hygeine care, peer pressure, sex education and played ALOT of soccer!

Week 2: Lots of preaching & door to door Evangelism!

This is the church congregation where I preached my first sermon in Africa!
This is Pastor Sammy’s Church. We spent a week with him visiting his members houses and meeting new families as we evangelized in the local neighborhoods.
Week 3: visiting Children’s Homes
This is Rehema Children’s Home. We met founders Jeff and Joyce at a coffee shop and they invited us to visit their home. It was a beautiful afternoon to see how God was moving in their ministry and love on the 90 plus children that lived with them!
We also spent time at NewLife’s Children’s Home. I love, love, LOVED the kids here! I made two special friends and they gave me a grand tour of their home, taught me TONS of African songs & dances, and thanks to their fabulous English, we had great conversations about their lives and the Lord.

We leave Pastor Moses and his family tomorrow and my heart is sick at the thought of having to say goodbye. This Godly couple has adopted us into their family and we will forever have a home in Kenya.
