It’s wedding season!
That season of my life where all my friends are getting married, I mean shoot even my brother is getting married
And I’m still single
I’m a 25-year-old woman who can say she has never had an actual boyfriend
I have always been so embarrassed of that statement
Why?
Because society has made me believe that there is something wrong with being single. That there must be something wrong with who I am if I’ve never been in a relationship
I have cried countless of times from living under the pressure of our societies viewpoint of what happiness is.
Happiness to them is: perfection in all aspects of your life such as your career, health, wealth, relationship status, etc.…
We think that being in relationship after relationship will make us happy, but really we are just giving away pieces of our heart and ourselves each time. Our self-esteem takes a hit each time we feel rejected. We start to believe something is wrong with who we are. We begin to have an eating disorder, we start obsessing over what brands we own, we might even become promiscuous because that’s what we think will keep him around.
Again, why?
Because that is what our society has convinced us is true
Well, I’m here to say that for once in my life I’m proud of being single. Not because society has changed their minds on what it means to be single. It’s because I know that I’m a catch!
God has made me who I am and that is a pretty darn awesome person.
Being single has given me the chance to build a solid foundation in the Lord. It has also given me the chance to travel the world.
I know that God is writing a breathtaking love story for me
So if you’re single don’t be ashamed of it!
Find what God has made you passionate about and live your life out of that passion.
A declaration my squad coach, Ruth, gave to all the women on my squad is
“We will be women that do not waste time seeking perfect community, instead we will seek to serve. The people that serve along side of us will be our community.”
Don’t seek for the perfect guy. Serve and do what you’re passionate about and I’m pretty sure God will bring around the right person.
Embrace the free time you have by living life abundantly from the freedom found living outside of the pressure of society.
