In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day is a book I’ve just finished reading by Mark Batterson. It is
a MUST read so go get it right now! (after you finish reading this blog of course) It is based around a verse in 2 Samuel 23 about a man named Benaiah who chased a lion into a pit, on a snowy day, and killed it.
He did many heroic deeds, which included killing two champions of Moab.
Another time, on a snowy day, he chased a lion down into a pit and killed it.
– 2 Samuel 23:20-21
Batterson calls his readers to be Lion Chasers! He hits on many great points such as defying the odds that may be against you, locking eyes with your lion, re framing you problems into opportunity to chase lions, taking risks, knowing that it’s okay to look foolish and even the importance of looking foolish.
And one chapter that really sticks out to me right now is, “Unlearning Your Fears”. “Psychiatrists posit that we’re born with only two innate fears: the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises. That means that every other fear is learned. And more importantly, that means that every other fear can be unlearned.”
So why is it that this chapter is sticking out to me above the rest? It’s because as I’ve been preparing for the World Race, this is the main form of attack satan has used. I’ve honestly never experienced such crippling fear as I have over the past few months.
Thankfully, I have the power and authority in Jesus Christ to pray off this fear, I have believers in my life that also have this same authority and I am in NO way bound by this fear but it has, never the less, been a struggle for me lately.
And most importantly, I am a Lion Chaser!
One of my biggest fears lately has been, you guessed it, support raising. I MUST remember the truth though!
– I have been called to go!
– I will be rejected at times, but God has a list of supporters and it’s my job to find that list!
So in saying that, I need to re-frame my thinking about a few things and keep my eyes on Jesus. Eventually, in HIS timing, all my support WILL come in! Those that are called to partner with me WILL be obedient to God!
That being said, I am asking God to provide $1,250 THIS week! It may sound crazy, but let’s remember how BIG and powerful our God is! I need to raise $1,250 by next Monday, the 3rd of May.
Please join me in prayer this week as I raise this partnership in taking Jesus Christ to the nations! Please pray and ask God if YOU are on His list of supporters for the World Race!
living as if the purpose of life is to arrive safely at death. Grab
life by the mane. Set God-sized goals. Pursue God-ordained passions. Go
after a dream that is destined to fail without divine intervention. Keep
asking questions. Keep making mistakes. Keep seeking God. Stop pointing
out problems and become part of the solution. Stop repeating the past
and start creating the future. Stop playing it safe and start taking
risks. Accumulate experiences. Consider the lilies. Enjoy the journey.
Find every excuse you can to celebrate everything you can. Live like
today is the first day and last day of your life. Don’t let what’s wrong
with you keep you from worshiping what’s right with God. Burn sinful
bridges. Blaze new trails. Criticize by creating. Worry less about what
people think and more about what God thinks. Don’t try to be who you’re
not. Be yourself. Laugh at yourself. Quit holding out. Quit holding
back. Quit running away.
Two ways to give:
-To give online: click on the *Join My Support Team* link to the left of this page.
-To give by check: send a check to Adventures In Missions PO Box 534470 Atlanta, GA 30353. Put my appeal ID: HOLLISMARY in the memo section on the check. (very important)
If you are giving this week, please email me at [email protected] and let me know so I can calculate it into my support total! Thanks! And thanks to EVERYONE that has already partnered with me! I can’t do this without you!
