Greetings from Kenya! It’s crazy how time is flying by here!
So what have we been doing?
Well we’ve been speaking at a lot of secondary (high)
schools. Speaking in front of a group of people is not one of my favorite
things to do but it has been such a blessing and opportunity to be amongst
these students. We’ve gone to about 10 different schools to speak to the
students and God has shown up each time. There have been professions of faith
by some students, some have recommitted their lives to Christ, and some have
been encouraged by the words God has placed on our lips! My favorite part of
the whole thing is when we get to talk to the students one on one afterward.
They have been asking some great questions and then we are able to pray with
them one on one. These students are hungry for discipleship. They have a saying
in Africa that relationships with Jesus are “miles wide and inches deep. We
are praying that disciples would rise up here and that it would be a trickling
down effect!
Also, just a neat little story for you. One day Gordon, a
man from Deliverance Church, came to pick Chad, Kirsten, and I up to go speak
at a school. We left for the school and he said he had to stop by the church
quickly and after that we stopped into a sort of gas station type thing. I
don’t know that you could really call it a gas station as it was just two gas
pumps and it just so happened that they were both empty. As I look down and
notice the gas gage on the car is past empty Gordon says, “Oh well, the Lord is
with us! Let’s proceed. So we went on to the school that was at least 30
minutes out of town while most traveling on bumpy dirt roads. We made it to the
school and back with no issues though! It was pretty neat to see the faith that
Gordon had. Now I’m not telling you to go and see how long your car can run on
empty but to trust the Lord when things seem impossible. Do you live your life
knowing that you serve a HUGE God?
There is also an abandoned babies home in Kisumu that we’ve
been going to as well and I love it! It’s called New Life Home Trust. Abandoned
newborn babies have been a problem in Kenya for years and the problem is
steadily increasing. In response to the crisis the home was founded in 1994.
Priority is given to babies who are HIV positive. To date, there has been over
70% conversion rate amongst the babies who were HIV positive upon admission.
We’ve been able to do everything from play with the toddlers to bottle feed the
newborns! I love the babies! They are so precious and just bundles of joy and
signs of hope! God has NOT forgotten the orphans!
We have only about a week left in Kenya before going to
Uganda! Please pray that we will continue to stay focused on what the Lord has
for us here and continue to seek His divine daily appointments!
