“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
 so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”

Isaiah 55:10-11

What if I fail? Does it mean that I do not have Your favor if I do not succeed?

If you would have asked me at the beginning of the semester if I was going to pass, I would have sincerely answered with “I have no idea, but it doesn’t look good”.  The questions above whirled around my mind so often this semester.  I would think “these people know that I believe in God, so if they see me fail, they won’t think that He is powerful”.

We often assume that if we are to succeed for the Kingdom, then that automatically means that we must succeed at everything on earth.

I have read Isaiah 55:10-11 a million times, but I never saw what the Lord was trying to show me in these beautiful verses until I was staring failure in the face.  God makes His point clear, “my word…shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it”.

John 1:1-3 says, “in the beginning was the Word…through him all things were made; without him nothing was made hat has been made”.  Wow, so if I am made through the Word, then Isaiah 55:10-11 is true about me!

I will not return to Him empty.

I shall accomplish that which He has purposed for me.

I shall succeed in the thing for which He sent me.

So, it is official! I successfully completed semester four of nursing school!  I’m sitting here in the comfort of ULM’s campus Starbucks, grinning from ear to ear, but not for the reason that many would assume.  I now realize that my success is secure.  Not because of how well I perform, but because of what He has said about me, for me, and to me!

Thank you all for your prayers and encouraging words! You all have no idea how much they have lifted my spirits! Now it’s time to buckle down and get to the fun part of preparing for the race-fundraising! Haha

All my love,

Mary Cox
