G-squad, The Worshipers

Last month in Romania we had an All-squad month. We lived together, ate together, did intercession every morning together, and we all did ministry with one church (although different ministries). This was our second all squad month. Our first all squad month was in India, month 2 of the Race. You can imagine that people have grown and changed a lot since our early days as World Racers back in August. People have matured in their faith, they have grown in how they live out their faith, and they have built healthy relationships with one another. The G-squad I spent the month of February with, was not the same G-squad I spend August with. I love these people. And they love me. And I love to see how their love for Christ plays out.

Worship is something that I love. However, if I were leading worship, I would suggest you bring earplugs…I don’t sing with much tune or play an instrument with any skill. But I love to worship. We were made to worship. Literally, humans were created to worship God. And I love to worship through music, I love the freedom in the spirit that comes through that kind of worship.

It may surprise you that I have missed corporate worship while on the race. Most of the churches we have attended in other countries haven’t filled that desire that is fulfilled in corporate worship. And if I’m being honest, I expected more corporate prayer and worship on the race. I’m not pointing fingers or complaining. I just saying, I had an expectation that hasn’t been met. Maybe it wasn’t realistic. Maybe I needed to take more responsibility to make it happen. Or maybe it’s okay to have an expectation that’s not met. Maybe I need to learn to worship in more alternative situations. Maybe I’m not entitled to have a corporate worship ‘experience’. And that’s okay. Please know, we have had some amazing times of praise as a squad since the beginning, but I felt like we could grow in this area. As a squad, we are blessed with some beautiful singers, great musicians, and gifted worship leaders. With this said, as a squad I felt like we could grow in this area.

Something changed for our squad in worship last month. I believe it was through intentional times of prayer and praise that our squad moved into a place of beautiful, unified and edifying worship. This past month we had the opportunity to do praise and intercession together daily. We had the opportunity to seek God together as a squad. And some evenings were dedicated to praise & worship as a squad. And these things made all the difference.

Our squad was given the name “Worshipers” by our host in Romania. He referenced John 4, where it talks about true worshipers of the Father, who worship in spirit and in truth. So please join me in referring to World Race G-Squad 3rd Generation as “The Worshipers” from here on out. The Lord has blessed us all beyond belief and only asks that we worship Him. I am constantly amazed by that.

“But the time is coming – Indeed it’s here now – when true worshipers will
worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those
who will worship him that way. For God is Spirit, so those who worship
him must worship in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23 – 24
