Over the past number of years I have been working with families in the Halifax area. It has been an honour to be welcomed into the lives of young families and support them at very vulnerable times. I have been blessed to have such an opportunity. Although it has been rewarding, I have often felt restless in my job and in my city.
Last summer, while feeling this restlessness, God continually reminded me to “prepare and expect the seasons of life to change”. As the fall started I began to think about the World Race, a mission program I knew little about. Within a few weeks I felt that God was leading me into this new adventure and I applied. So in July 2014, I am embarking on the World Race (WR), an 11 month Christian Mission trip to 11 different countries.
Why am I going? Simply put, God loves me and I have to share his love with others. I believe that I am called to show that love in tangible ways, the WR provides opportunities to do that in practical ways to vulnerable populations.
What will I be doing? Throughout the WR my team and I will serve alongside local organizations that minister to their communities in a variety of ways. This may include working with women & children involved in human trafficking, children in orphanages, AIDS victims, or participate in infrastructure, agricultural and water projects.
In May I will travel to Georgia for a week-long training camp; I will meet my team and we will prepare for our year together. The WR provides a year of intense discipleship that will give me the opportunity to see God at work in the lives of those we are serving, and in my own life. My one goal for the WR is be a witness of God’s love through the way I love my team, the people we are serving, and the people we are working alongside.
How much will it cost? I have learned, in talking with other “racers”, that the WR will be one of the most challenging years of my life. One of the biggest challenges facing me right now is the finances required for the WR. To be fully funded, before I leave at the end of June, I need to raise $16,300 USD. A portion of this is being raised through fundraising initiatives (such as Kijiji sales, a flea market, and a dinner). I am so grateful for the support I have received through some of these ventures. Another way you can support me is by sponsoring me financially. If 100 people sponsored me $100, I would have $10,000 raised! Any amount you can provide is graciously appreciated. Please see the attached page for information on how to send in your financial support.
Your prayer support is also requested, as I prepare for the WR, while I am away, and when I am readjusting to life at home. Currently a few specific prayer requests are:
· My team: that God would bring us together in unity.
· Financial Provision: that God would provide, through sponsors & fund raisers, the necessary funds.
· My emotional health: as I prepare to leave my home, family and friends for a year.
· That I would draw close to God during this time of preparation.
As you partner with me, please be encouraged that you are not just making a payment. You are partnering with God as he leads my team and the local organizations we engage with. Your support will impact the lives of individuals, families and communities across the globe.
Thank you for your support!
