Me & Jesus

I was raised in the church, in our rural community I often felt like we were “the church family”. Although I committed my life to Christ earlier in life, I remember when I was 17 really wanting Christ before all else. It’s been almost 14 years and I can remember the song that was being sung, where I was sitting, and the internal struggle that I was experiencing. That moment of surrendering to God has happened countless times since then, but that moment when I was 17 is significant and has stayed with me.

I love my church family. I feel encouraged and loved every time I am there. I am so blessed to be part of a faith community that calls forth my gifts and talents, and that they pouring into me faster them I’m pouring out.

Family Life

I come from a big family, and although things were a little hectic at times, I wouldn’t change it. In fact, it’s the hectic times that hold the fondest memories! Like going to the family camp for a week in an ’85 Volkswagen Vanagon, 8 of us crammed into an old canvas tent. Or when we tried to go to a local amusement park, 2 hours from home, and the ole van broke down on the way. My dad repaired the van with duck tape and we drove around looking for a part instead of screaming on the rollercoaster. Or finally the countless hours we spent swimming, building camps, sledding, skating, and jumping into the leaves. Although we were really good at bugging each other (and still are), I’m glad I had 5 siblings to grow up with.

I now have a total of 11 nieces and nephews, ranging from age 21 down to 2 months! I love being an aunt. As I prepare for the World Race, thinking about being away from my nieces and nephews for 11 months is hard. Skype will definitely be necessary, as they will grow and change so much over the year I am gone.

Work Life

I studied Psychology and Religious Studies in University, and Addictions Counselling in College. Over the past 5 ½ years I have been working with not-for-profit organizations that support families with young children. I support families in parenting, life skills, and provide ongoing emotional support. Through this job I have met many inspiring families that have overcome many different obstacles. It has been a privilege to be part of their lives, and support them in being stronger, healthier parents and families.
