11 Things you should know about month 1 of 11 in Nepal!
- 34 people can fit into a micro-van (basically a 15 passenger van, the form public transit takes around here.)
- Horns honk ALL THE TIME. To get people, dogs, cows, other vehicles out of the way, as a friendly hello, or just for the sake of honking.
- Cows are legit walked like dogs. Goats are tethered out like dogs. At first it was strange…now it seems almost normal. [Remember they don’t have huge fields or even many cows/goats, so it makes more sense to walk them or tether them out]
- My team talks about bodily functions a lot. Diarrhea and puking are common. I’ve done both. You’re welcome for sharing.
- Uphill both ways is a real this…it has been our daily life, as we walk to our ministry contacts every day. We have literally walked up mountains. The views were always picture worthy. The opportunity to pray for the valley made is worth it. And encouraging the local believers, while being loved back was priceless.
- Rice and noodles anyone? That was our diet (and probably will be the majority of our race). My dietary restrictions resulted in me eating a lot of rice cakes and peanut butter.
- Picture this: a scooter loses control, tips over, throwing the helmet-less driver and passenger into the air. They get up, get on the bike, drove away holding their heads, while talking on their cell phone.
- I didn’t know I could sweat this much. But I haven’t gotten to India yet.
- Witnessing 15 new believers be baptized in the river is amazing.
- Seeing 2 wild cats jump the river during the baptism is also pretty cool. Not so cool when they jump across the path in front of you…that happened too, my heart is still pounding I think.
- Nearly being in a car accident is normal – it happens a lot. There have been 3 times that I remember seeing my life flash before my eyes…one time was today. We have never been so close to being in a crash. Thankfully, it is a busy city, so it’s usually pretty slow moving traffic (yes I just added this in for my parents & grandparents sake).
