I left Serbia a little more than 2 weeks ago and it seems like a whole other life. I hope you all got at least a little bit more insight into my month in Serbia than usual. It was a slow month, looking back on it now it is all a blur. Here is a quick over cap of the month, sorry for the delay!
What city did you stay in? What was your living situation?
- Sombor, Serbia. We lived in the Protestant Christian Fellowship Church. This month we partnered with another team, Team Lioness. We slept on our sleeping pads in the Sunday school room upstairs of the church. (10 girls in one room and 3 boys in the room next to us).
What was your ministry for this month?
- This month our ministry was fellowship. We wanted to be examples of what it is like to live our lives of Jesus and talk with anyone and everyone about it. Inviting people into the church was important so that they can make connection with our hosts to develop long term relationships. In addition we also helped out with some manual work around the church and helped out some church members.
What language do most people speak?
- Serbian. My favorite word I learned is kikiriki which means peanuts, its just really fun to say ??
What foods did you try? What was your favorite?
- My favorite food this month would definitely be the gyros! We went so often that the workers knew us.
What was the hardest thing about this month?
- Distractions! This month felt very similar to America. With that came a lot of distractions and old habits of comfort. This made it hard to stay focused and present on my time in Serbia. But I am excited for how this will help me prepare for coming back to America and continue moving forward!!
What was the best thing about this month?
- Visiting the Gypsy village is definitely on of my favorite experiences on the Race so far. The people and kids I was able to meet were beautiful and kind. I can’t help but smile when thinking about the days I spent there!
What was unexpected this month?
- I got to go to Budapest, Hungry! When I signed up for the Race I did not ever think that I would get to go to any countries that were not on my route, however life is full of surprises. I did not know much about Budapest before going there and holy moly did it blow me away. It is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL city! I highly recommend if you get the chance to visit that you should!
Where did you see Jesus the most?
- Jesus. I saw Jesus in His consistency. No matter how hectic or distracted we get in our lives Jesus is constant and the same. He overwhelms me with His patience and desire to be with us. It is hard to put words to who Jesus is to me and how our relationship is growing. I truly hope each of you reading this give Him a chance to show you how profoundly He knows you and wants to be with you. Even if you think you already have, allow Him to show you more because He can always go deeper with you. Life with Him never stops getting sweeter and sweeter!
So if you did the math then you know I have now been in Romania for about 2 weeks now and let me tell you I am LOVING it here. I am getting to work closely with my host Raul and a former World Racer Cristina. I am learning a lot and getting to laugh just as much. I am helping with the behind the scenes of a missionaries life and it is incredible.
This month is also exceptionally exciting because…..MY DAD IS COMING!!!! More on this later but just know I am PUMPED to get to be wrapped up in his big hug so soon!!
With lots of love,
Martha Kuhn
Prayer Warriors:
- Pray for safety as many parents fly out to come visit us out on the field. Also pray that the week we get to spend together would be full of deep conversations, joyful ministry and some good ole fun.
- Pray that the people we encounter over the next we would be open to the Lord and willing to ask the questions on their minds and have conversation about what life with Jesus looks like.
