Many people think that worshiping God may be done through singing and music. I agree…however, those who know me know that I have NO rhythm, and my voice is anything but in a proper key…let alone whether or not I even have the right words to sing (usually I make up my own words…but that’s OK!). Thankfully, I also believe that there are MANY more ways to show God love…and we can bring other people into this all at the same time.

What on earth am I talking about?

I’m an audio/visual person. I learn best through scenarios that I can either picture or close my eyes and “hear” whatever people are talking about…therefore, I’m going to give you an analogy of sorts.

I’m with some friends at a restaurant for my birthday. My phone rings…I look at it (visual) and see that the number is RESTRICTED. Hmmm…should I answer it or is it a telemarketer trying to sell me some crap that I don’t want. I decide…maybe it is someone I know…so I answer it to some of the most ridiculous singing I’ve ever heard (audio)…and trust me, I’m one of the worst singers around…but this was BAD. I laughed and laughed as it is truly some funny stuff going on here. Then, the singing ends, and in a kidnapper’s voice, the folks on the other end of the phone ask if I know who it is. I recognize one laugh…the other however I was at a standstill on. The guessing continues until I get it right…as the voices returned to normal I figured it all out. Where on earth am I going with this? Let me tell you.

This was one of the MANY ways I felt loved on my birthday from so many people. Some people spent time with me in person, some with phone calls, some e-mails, some making cold-bake cakes at random, some sending cards (even some with postage due!)…all forms of worship in each person’s own way. We can worship God through loving on others. These two individuals were ready to make me laugh on my birthday…a sign of love. While their singing was sub-par, I did feel the love. Where did that love come from? I barely know these people in all reality. This love was from God, channeled through two willing individuals, into a phone through hundreds of miles of mysterious cell-phone signals to my phone, into my ears, I felt loved. If worship was only expressed through singing, I along with many of us would be in serious trouble (and that happy birthday song would have been anti-christian). But it’s not. There are endless ways that we can worship God without any music…I want to know how you think this is possible. I hope some of my blogs to be interactive…how do you worship when music isn’t an option? I hope as I continue this journey, you will find the ways that I worship…

P.S. – I will protect the identity of those awesome singers…truthfully…they are awesome worshipers, they probably didn’t even think of it as an act of worship, but I know that God was using them at that moment, and their act of worship was to act upon it. You two are the BEST!!!
