First of all, let me say a HUGE THANK YOU to all of my supporters, NEVER in my wildest dreams would I have thought that I would EVER be traveling the world in Christian missions in 2008!
The adventure all started January 4th with a flight to Ft. Lauderdale where we launched to fly 6 hours to Lima Peru. We had a great flight with lots of laughter and good conversations getting to know each other. We arrived in Lima, Peru, and got to spend our first night in a hostel not too far from the airport. There was a nice party going on next door…but by the time we got there I was so tired I could have slept next to a train station.
Our first day in Peru started the “Race” portion of the trip. This was a fun time of getting to know our team and touring the country a bit…it included seeing some catacombs, the President’s palace, the Pacific ocean, a lot of miles on foot, many miles in taxis and many miles on buses. Travel here is INSANE. Taxi drivers are crazy…I think that they use some kind of horn signals to let them know they are changing lanes, but I can’t be sure about that…there were near accidents in each of the many taxi’s I’ve been on today…but by God’s grace, there were no injuries!!!
Tomorrow (Monday) will be a day of training and a tour of Chincha Peru, where we will be at for January…travel plans have not allowed us to figure out where we will be in Feb yet…or any other month for that matter (though some hints have been dropped). It adds to the adventure of The World Race.
Some things I got out of last night and today…
Getting around in a foreign country with a different language is difficult
Taxis are not exactly safe…one only had 3 lug nuts on each wheel…and no speedometer…but they make people in the front seat wear seatbelts
Taxi horns speak a universal language of GET OUT OF MY WAY…and they mean it.
Customs make me nervous…I don’t know why
The less you take the better, bags get real heavy real quick
We live in complete comfort in America….SERIOUSLY.
There is always a party somewhere in Peru…whether it be in Lima or Chincha, at night I always hear the same music.
Where are we staying?
