Hello from Cambodia
I
think I have found the friendliest people and the cutest kids on the planet. We are working with a church called New Life Fellowship here in Phenom Phen. This church is amazing. We are teaching English, working with kids, youth and so much more. Next week I even get to go out in the country to help with a medical missions project. Obviously no medical experience required.
Living in Cambodia has been a major adjustment from Thailand or anywhere else for that matter. This country has only been free from war for about ten years. They have made such strides forward but have a long way to go. The city is very much like what I pictured a third world city to look like. Lots of people everywhere, cars and motorcycles, open markets, little shops everywhere and did I mention the people?  I will be posting some more videos on life in Cambodia soon so keep an eye out.
Back to the people. They are so amazing! When I walk out on the alley that we live on I am greeted by small kids yelling Hello, every time. Once one says it they start coming out of all the houses to see who is there. A few of us have started a game when we leave the house. In the hundred and fifty yards that we walk to the main street we count how many times we hear hello! I guessed 14 on the first time and I lost the game badly. I was way low. If we have any down time all we have to do to find people to minister to is step out the door and walk two feet.
One of the nice things about living here is that everyone is taught English in school so it is very prevalent. Just the other day I was at the stadium, a local hang out for playing sports on Saturdays. I was taking pictures of the area when three Cambodians approached me. They turned out to be students and wanted to talk to a native English speaker. They wanted to know were I was from, what I was doing in their country and on and on and on. It was so cool to talk to them. They are Buddhist but they also know about Christians. I didn’t get to share the gospel with them yet but they insisted on meeting again. By the time they had to go we had a group of three world racers and the three of them all sitting and having a great time. Ministry happens when you least expect it.
I had just short of no expectations for this country before I got here. This was partly due to not really knowing what we were going to do until shortly before we got here and the rest was because of my embarrassing lack of knowledge of the country. I’m loving it here in Cambodia. It is amazing how God works in your life.
