I had a few minutes so I thought I would get everyone up to speed on my coming and goings. So that everyone knows if you heard about a tsunami warning in Thailand I was not in any danger. Yes it was for our area but the locals said that the big one in 2004 never made it past the hospital down the street about a mile from were my team is staying and we live on the third and fourth floor. Fortunately nothing happened and no one was hurt here. Second if you heard about a plane crash in Thailand coming into Phuket airport from Bangkok don’t worry about that one either. I was on a plane going to Bangkok from Phuket that day. Please pray for the families of that flight.
I am in Chang Mai Thailand as I write this. I met up with the rest of the guys for Manistry (ministry + men= Manistry) in Bangkok on Sunday. We headed out to Chang Mai on Monday evening. We took a bus for the 11 hour ride. Now before you get an idea of what you think our trip was like I need to tell you about the buses in Thailand. Our bus had TV’s in the front with speakers throughout so we could watch a movie. Unfortunately the movie was Mr. Bean on holiday, which is bad enough, but it was also in Thai. They had in “flight” meals, beverages, and snacks. Our ticket price even included a stop at the Thai version of a midnight diner were we got to eat. In general this bus was nicer than the plane I took from Phuket a few days ago. It even had “flight attendants”. All this luxury was included in our $16.00 ticket price! The only bad part of our trip was at about 4:30 am our bus stopped on the side of the road and we sat broke down for an hour.
For those of you who saw my first blog on Thailand you can appreciate what happened next. A new bus showed up at 5:30 and they unloaded all our luggage and set it on the side of the road. Then while we are waiting to get on the new bus it starts to rain. It hadn’t rained the whole trip! Now that we and our bags are out in the open it rains. So we get on the new bus and we are off and going again. The rain stops two minutes after we got going again and we see no more rain for the rest of our trip to Chang Mai.
We will be helping with a YWAM conference here and whatever else God has in store for us. We have made several contacts with people here in Chang Mai.
So far my favorite part of being here is the weather. It is much cooler than Phuket was and we were even blessed with a room with AC, something I haven’t seen in a long while. Keep praying for us as we strike out on what God has for the Manistry team this month.
