I
spent 11 months traveling around the world doing missions. You knew that. In these 11+ countries I brushed my teeth
with the water there (as long as it looked clean) and never got sick. You might not have known or recommended
that. The Lord protected me from all
sorts of diseases and sicknesses that I encountered. What’s ironic to me is that when I returned
home I got a nasty skin infection and as soon as that went away I got what I
like to call “the tonsuvula.” Let me
explain.
Last
Saturday night I was really thirsty. I
drank and drank and drank water, but thought little of it. Sunday morning I had a little tickle in my
throat and by Sunday night I was really tired and only ate soft food because my
throat hurt too much. Monday morning I
used my handy dandy World Race approved head lamp and peered to the back of my
mouth. I was appalled to see that my
tonsils and uvula (that dangly thing at the back of your throat) were becoming
close friends – too close for comfort. Literally. It felt like I was
swallowing gravel. I think I ate a
yogurt and drank a couple of glasses of OJ all day. I was miserable.
Tuesday
morning I woke up to “the tonsuvula.” To
my dismay my tonsils and uvula had officially moved in together and painted
their new and larger house a nice deep red color. I remembered when they were friendly, but they
didn’t like having guests pass through anymore. I lamented the old days when chicken, pasta and cereal (just a couple of
my favorites) used to visit. I decided
since I could barely swallow water and consequently was so tired from not
eating that I should go to the doctor. She gave me a prescription for some antibiotics and I popped those
suckers into my mouth and dreamed about hard and crunchy foods.
Unfortunately,
the antibiotics didn’t work nearly as quickly as I anticipated (I thought right
away was a reasonable amount of time). For the next two days, I drug my tired and achy body across the house
and tried to accomplish part of my ongoing to-do list. As I lay on the couch late Wednesday night my
uncle suggested that I eat a popsicle to soothe my throat. I was willing to try and it felt so nice that
I had two. I’m sure it was a sugar high,
but after ten minutes I felt better than I had in three days! The next morning I had a popsicle for
breakfast and then my throat started to feel better and I could eat again –
slowly, but surely. I don’t believe the
popsicle alone was the cure, but it was the tipping point of my return to
healthiness. After a week I still don’t
feel 100% and my tonsils and uvula still hang out more that I would like them
to, but I can function like normal again. I thank God for Tropic Twin Popsicles.
Okay,
great story, but what does this mean for you? I want you to pray. Please pray
for health and wholeness for me and my team. I do not want this to happen while I am gone these next four months
leading a team. The enemy knows that
110+ of us are imminently departing to share the good news and he will do
everything in his power to thwart our ministry. Praise the Lord that He has already more than conquered! I am leaving this Sunday, December 27th
and will not be returning home until May. I continue to need financial support. Please help me by clicking here!
