Last week I had the opportunity to go
to the “river village.” I decided five days wasn’t too long to
live out of my backpack and skip showers, so I packed up and headed
out on Tuesday morning. We arrived and were welcomed by our host
family who graciously allowed us to setup our tents in their house.
We had the morning free and then went with the local kids down to the
river to play. I was surprised that the villagers did everything in
the river from bathing to laundry. Of course, it was a great place
to swim as well! In the evening we got together with the local youth
and sang songs, played volleyball and learned about the prodigal son.

Over the next couple of days we visited
homes, performed dramas and preached in church. We met with the
children and youth and swam in the afternoons with them to combat the
100 degree weather. I was greatly blessed to see the Pastor Marcos’
passion for the community and his church. We were able to pray for
him and be an encouragement to him.

One of the most challenging things for
me was to translate a lot of the time. My Spanish is not very good,
but I was given the opportunity to better my Spanish through
practice! During one church service I translated from English to
Spanish and then Marcos translated from Spanish to the local language
of Chol. If you are looking to lengthen your message from 15 minutes
to 45, this is a great way to do so!

We already completed part of our
journey to our ministry location in Nicaragua and are currently in
Guatemala. It will take us an additional four to five travel days to
get to our location, so please pray for continued safety and patience
for everyone involved. I’m excited to enter our next month and am
praying for a great powerful and life-changing last month with my
team! Thank-you for all of your prayers and support – you guys are
awesome!
