Yeah, I am talking about the movie! It is one of my favorites.  However, it wasn’t until recently I found out why…

In our calling class, we have spent a fair amount of time discovering our passions and, believe it or not, this movie pointed me towards my greatest passion.

Let me explain.

For those of you who haven’t seen the movie, this is your spoiler alert.  I’m cool with giving away the movie because if you haven’t seen it in the last eight years, chances are you don’t intend too.  Heck, maybe this blog will make you want to check it out.

The background is this: Post-modern disasters have wiped the United States out and we are no longer in the global picture.  The United Kingdom has managed to survive and a supreme director has assumed control and is now dictating everything in the Kingdom.

He controls the police, military and is the acting government.  Most importantly he controls every aspect of the media including the papers, news stations, and television programing.  This allows him to manipulate and direct the way people think and behave.

He uses fear to remind the people why they need him.  He shows them what life has become for the rest of the world and how, in comparison, great things are for them.  He also orchestrates a series of deadly outbreaks where the people are forced to depend on him and his regime.

This is where I introduce or hero, V.

V was one of the people experimented on in order to find this deadly pathogen and its cure.  V survives these experiments and is able to escape.  Thus he spends the duration of the move seeking vengeance on the director.

His aim is to bring truth to people.  His heart is to show them that they are settling into lives filled with mindless entertainment, willingly giving up their freedom and living lives in fear of the people who rule over them.

V, the hero, fights to show them they are being deceived!

This is where I find my passion.  My heart burns to illuminate light in darkness, bring truth to deception, to speak life and love over the world.

First for the lost, you are loved.  The God, who made you, loves you.  This is regardless of your actions.  If you find yourself continually looking for love, one that won’t change, this is what is being offered to you in Christ.
Your own shame and self-hatred is what keeps you from experiencing this love.  I know, I have been there myself.

To the Body, the lie you believe which is keeping you from receiving love is brought by the best.

The devil is called the father of lies for a reason.  His only goal now is to cripple the church, keeping us from walking in their full identity in Christ.  He constantly makes accusations against the brethren.

What is hard to believe is that most of these accusations are true!

The lie that needs to be dispelled is that Christ’s blood can’t cover that sin; the one that drives you away from others and makes you feel dirty, worthless and like a failure.  You may have struggled with this sin for as long as you can remember and feel like you are less worthy of love because you can’t get this right.

That is an attitude of defeat.

The devil wants you to believe you have lost.  The truth being when you side with the devil you have lost.  Instead, believe what the Lord says about you.  My blood is enough for that sin.  Forgive yourself and come to Me because I love you.

These aren’t the only two lies we believe.  They are just two of the big ones.

In a world full of deception I want to be the hero, I want to be V and bring light.  But only Jesus and the Spirit can be that.  I can reflect His light, but only He can sustain yours.

Only He can be your V.
