Hello to you, the person who may or may not know me, and have come across my blog.  Thanks for taking the time to read about what God has been doing in my life.

I’m signed up to travel on the second route in January and have training camp in a little less than a month.  So to prepare for my trip I have been spending time in prayer and studying the word.  It was during one of my solo study times that I came across this passage in 1 Corinthians and it has continuously come to mind ever since.  This is Paul, the apostle to the gentiles, writing to the church in Corinth, 1 Cor. 2:2-5, “For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him Crucified.  I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling.  And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

How would the Church be different if we “determined not to know anything except Jesus Christ and Him crucified”?  How would your or my life be different?  The word determined, used here, implies that Paul had considered all other teaching and speech he could have brought before them in Corinth, and that none were as important as Jesus the Christ and His crucifixion.  In fact, to Paul, Jesus as Christ and His crucifixion was so important he claims he knew nothing else among them!

Please pray that as followers of Christ we can also be so devoted to Him that we judge it acceptable to know nothing but Jesus as the Christ and Him Crucified for us.  Only then will we be able to fully demonstrate the power of the Spirit and of God’s love for mankind.

With great love, Mark Rowdon
